In this class (taught by a writer from Full Frontal with Samantha Bee), we’ll learn about the format and process for writing the political topical monologues featured in shows like Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight, and more. This includes breaking down the kind of joke structures utilized most often as well as the approach to taking often upsetting news stories and turning them into comedy.

Playwright and director Tina Satter leads writing and directorial exercises and strategies that will be used to generate new performance writing and scene work—and can be applied to infuse projects already in process. A collaborative and open environment allows participants to find unexpected ways to generate writing and hone directing techniques—and be in conversation with Tina about their own work and her practice with her experimental theater company.
